JUNCTURE

Arctic TreeHouse Hotel / Studio Puisto

The Arctic TreeHouse Hotel, designed by Helsinki-based Studio Puisto, sits on a steep hillside in Rovaniemi, Finland. The main building, made to look as if it merges with the natural environment, houses individual accommodation units that were all built indoors, including the internal surfaces and fixed furniture. They were lifted onto pillars straight from the truck, reducing any strain or disruption to the surrounding ecology. Aside from the kitchen and technical facilities, which are made with concrete, the entire building is constructed from wood, with the interior ceilings and walls lined with blond timber, and the floors made up of oiled oak parquet. Five of the luxury suites, furnished with low-slung wire chairs swathed in white linen and fur, boast floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, offering a stunning panorama of the Finnish forest and Northern Lights.
