A modern take on the classic scooter, the new Gogoro 2 Smartscooter packs a 6.4 kilowatt motor, enabling a 0-50 km/hr sprint time of 4.3 seconds and top speed of 90 km/hr (roughly 55 mph). While those numbers are comparable to the Taiwanese company’s first Smartscooter, the $1,295 pricing makes it twice as cheap. In addition to the new engine, the scooter has larger wheels, a full-color LED panel and brighter LED headlamps, as well as additional space that can accommodate a passenger. Additionally, an updated version of the accompanying mobile app has support for TouchID security. The Smartscooter will be powered by Gogoro’s swappable batteries, with the company promising to add 500 more battery stations of the network of 350 that already exists in Taiwan. It’s set to launch in six colors — white, grey, orange, blue, yellow, and red — starting this summer in Taiwan.
