JUNCTURE

Stormvillan / Mer Arkkitehdit

Located in the picturesque seaside town of Hanko, Finland, Stormvillan was designed by architecture studio Mer Arkkitehdit to integrate within the area’s unique rocky terrain. The spruce-clad villa has a ground level that’s cut into the rock, while the main floor offers scenic vistas in three different directions. The living room opens up to a view of the Baltic sea, a dining terraces faces west to catch nightly sunsets, and a master bedroom faces the junipers and wind swept pine trees arrayed throughout the cliff on which it stands. The entrance of the residence sits at beach level, which opens into a long, narrow passageway with glazed walls that reveal the surrounding bedrock. Finally, at the back of the ground floor is a wine cellar built into the cliff, featuring walls made with bare rock.
