MIT Technology Review 50 Smartest Companies List

This week saw the unveiling of the 2017 edition of the MIT Technology Review 50 Smartest Companies List. Each year, the publication’s editors evaluate a wide field of potential entrants. “The companies on the list combine a high level of technology innovation with a business model that will help them make the most of it,” says Nanette Byrnes, senior editor for business. “Public and private, large and small, based in countries around the globe, this group of companies is creating new opportunities and pouncing on them.” NVIDIA tops the list, up from No. 12 on last year’s rankings, and usual suspects like Amazon and Apple come in at 3 and 16, respectively. The only sportswear company to make the cut is adidas, which takes the 38th spot. The Review cites the Three Stripes’ “robot-intensive microfactory” in Germany, as well as the brand’s foray into 3D printing, typified by the lattice midsole on the Futurecraft 4D shoe.
