JUNCTURE

1958 Tracked Cuthbertson Land Rover

Blending design cues from both the military and the railway, the 1958 Tracked Cuthbertson Land Rover can go where standard 4×4 vehicles can’t. James A. Cuthbertson Scotland started his own company in 1936, drawing on his engineering background to create tracked Land Rovers riding atop a custom-built subframe with the tracks attached, controlled up top by a crankshaft-driven power steering unit. Equipped with a towbar at the front of the subframe, the behemoth is capable of speeds reaching 20 mph. This particular model is one of the estimated 20 total that left the factory floor, produced in the first year of Cuthbertson production, 1958.
