Emerging from its Denver-based workshop is the DownShift Studio Honda CX500 “The Grinder,” a minimalist street scrambler based on a 1981 CX. The build represents the first hands-on project by industrial designer Jeremy Lacy, founder of DownShift, who started the process by stripping the bike down to parts. The original subframe was removed and the bike was converted from a twin shock to a mono shock, while the original fuel tank mounts were moved so that the tank base would follow the line of the new subframe. Rounding out the details are a new leather seat, an 18” wheel in the back paired with the original 19″ front wheel, and new front and rear lights. DownShift Studio has the bike up for sale to help fund its next project.
